Marty Abrams officially announces the return of Mego Corporation at Mego Meet 2018.

We begin “Mego Meet Recap Week” with the big one first.

Mego President Marty Abrams along with Paul “Dr. Mego” Clarke spoke to a jam-packed hall at this Saturday’s Mego Meet 2018 for a panel about Mego’s past and it’s future.

The big announcement was that Mego Corporation is returning and to mass retail this year. While all the details and figures will be revealed at the Mego Museum in two weeks, here is what we do know.

  • Mego is back and they’re in the action figure business baby!
  • There will be 20 different characters introduced in the first wave.
  • It is a variety of licenses, some will be familiar to Mego fans, others will be new properties to the World’s Greatest Toy Company.
  • There will be 8″ figures but also other scales, due to license parameters.
  • Figures were produced under the watchful eye of Paul “Dr. Mego” Clarke.
  • All details including licenses, characters, and the retailer will be revealed mid-June.

Exciting times to be a Mego fan!

Yay, we’re finally getting red shirts to kill

DC693806AAlg

Time to dig some eight inch graves, Mego Museum reporting:

“The latest Diamond Select Star Trek set is now available for Pre-Order. The Cheron is a reverse of the previous release and the Red Shirt figure comes in two different hari colours and ranks, the variations are evenly spread in a case. Click here to order for this May!

2016 will see Star Trek’s 50th anniversary and Diamond is bringing back the Retro line in a big way. This new set is just one of many we’re set to see in the next twelve months. Follow us on Twitter: @megomuseum for more updates.”

And the next four DST Marvel sets are

So it was confirmed at the Mego Museum forums that the next four Marvel sets are (in no order)

Deadpool

DareDevil

Punisher

Spider-man (including 2099 but we don’t know who else)

OK, I’m surprised about Iron Man as well but the character selection does seem somewhat well thought out based on popularity and media attention. Still hoping for something a little more classic in wave 3 but people have been wanting a 70s Mego style DD and Punisher for forever and a day.

Hopefully something retro cool like the Electric Company or Japanese Spider-Man ends up in the new set. I am going to assume that the black suit is a given.

Limited Edition Captain Canuck at Silver Snail Comics

silversnalcanuck

Silver Snail Comics has created exclusive signed/numbered limited edition Odeon Toys Captain Canuck action figure in time for the release of the Captain’s new book. This one featuring packaging art by Kalman Andrasofszky.

Each figure includes Includes a Silver Snail courier bag containing a Captain Canuck #1 “comic book” scaled to the figure.

You can get the variant Captain at Silver Snail comics.

If you get there today Kalman is signing from 5-8pm. You may also catch a glimpse of Suicide Squad which is filming in the neighborhood.

The Kubby Awards are in

The 2014 Mego Museum Kubby Awards for excellence in ReMego are up for viewing right now.  It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that Figures Toy Co and NECA pretty much stole the show this year but I do think some nice stuff got ignored.

I guess when you have a property as beloved as 1966 Batman and then you actually do a nice job of the figures, you really have lightning in a bottle. Congrats to the winners!

Cancelled Lines: DST Knight Rider

michael-knight

Not even the combined forces of nostalgic 80s kids and the population of Germany could save this one. DST offered an 8″ Michael Knight for pre-order using their newly acquired tooling from ZICA toys because, well, why not? It’s a high profile property and a nice looking figure.

Sadly, a Michael Knight doll without a car or promise of a car is kind of well, not as sexy as it sounded. I’m conjecturing here but i’m guessing that the pre-orders were humbling and the doll was pulled off the table. (feel free to correct me, I am pulling this theory out of you-know-where)

Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Keep taking your shots DST, I salute you!
PS Make more 8″ Universal Monsters…

DST Bluntman and Chronic Figures out soon

jaybob_zps120c49b6 (1)
Sources close to us mention that the Bluntman and Chronic figures by Diamond Select/EMCE are set to arrive soon, maybe in time for Christmas. The set even includes the C*ck-Knocker, a character which is way, way down on my “characters played by Mark Hamill that i want in 8″ format” list.

Still, I’m happy for the fans and to see yet another property get the Mego format and it looks EMCE did a nice job as usual,  I wish it all the success in the world if only to see Diamond/EMCE take more risks with the 8″ format. *cough* Black Dynamite *cough*

Also, you just know these things will make their way into every scene of the next season of “Comic Book Men”….
You can pre-order all these figures at Entertainment Earth.
