Shows that should have Mego lines: STAR WARS

Layout 1

I don’t begrudge anyone the likely orgasmic joy that is felt from the new Star Wars trailer that just dropped, nor do I feel deprived of a happy childhood playing with my 3 3/4″ Kenner action figures, they were pretty swell indeed.

It’s just that, as a Mego head, I’ve seen EVERYSINGLEFREAKINGFORMAT of SW figures (many of them poor quality) come and go, save for 8 inch action figures? Not even a lousy attempt like Famous Covers.

Right now Entertainment Earth has 1,177 licensed Star Wars products, including 177 action figures by five different companies. Multiple formats, nothing ever close to Mego scale in almost 40 years.

WHY? You can’t tell me it’s format, if Lucasfilm approved this, high standards aren’t the problem. As evidenced by the page from 1978 (a magazine you should own)  they’d look pretty spiffy if done by the right company.

I find your lack of Mego faith disturbing.

A little more about Flatt World Zorro

Zorro Draws 2-21-1

So I got a nice letter from Calvin, former head honcho at Flatt World last night correcting a couple of points from my piece and sending me a much better photo of the Zorro prototype that I have featured above.

The most interesting new insight I gained was that it was planned to have the Flatt World Zorro figure be in the Sony DVD menu of “The Mask of Zorro”. This would have been a ground breaking promotion for the time.

Calvin also went on to add that this was the figure he was most sad not to see go into production. He also believed the character’s international popularity would have seen this be their biggest hit. The only way to win that argument is likely to join his side.

This photo reinforces how nice the figure would have been.

DST Bluntman and Chronic Figures out soon

Sources close to us mention that the Bluntman and Chronic figures by Diamond Select/EMCE are set to arrive soon, maybe in time for Christmas. The set even includes the C*ck-Knocker, a character which is way, way down on my “characters played by Mark Hamill that i want in 8″ format” list.

Still, I’m happy for the fans and to see yet another property get the Mego format and it looks EMCE did a nice job as usual,  I wish it all the success in the world if only to see Diamond/EMCE take more risks with the 8″ format. *cough* Black Dynamite *cough*

Also, you just know these things will make their way into every scene of the next season of “Comic Book Men”….
You can pre-order all these figures at Entertainment Earth.

Toy Show Alert: Two Shows in Toronto this weekend

TS

It’s a busy weekend if you’re a South Central Ontario resident (like me)

First the Annual Toronto Toy Show is Sunday

Sunday, November 23, 2014

The Toronto Collectors Show
The International Centre, 6900 Airport Rd. Mississauga, ON, Hall 2
Hours: 10 am – 4 pm

Admission: $12, Kids 6-12: $4, under 6: free

This used to be THE toy show when I was younger, in fact it was the first toy show I ever attended in 1986. It’s kind of faded from it’s former glory but I still find some deals there.

Sunday, November 23, 2014

East End ToyCon

Ajax Community Centre, 75 Centennial Rd., Ajax, Ontario

Hours: 10 am – 5 pm
Admission $5, kids 10 and under free

eastendtoycon@gmail.com

A toy show in Durham Region (about 20 minutes east of Toronto proper) this one holds hope for me, as I know of at least two dealers going who bring some really decent vintage, plus it’s so close to my house I could show up in my bathrobe.
