Toy-Ventures: AHI World Famous Super Monsters

Monster month continues with a long-overdue look at the Super Monster action figures by Azrak-Hamway International or AHI for short. This line only ran for three seasons but the amount of variations it produced is staggering. We also talk about the “unofficial years” that ran after.

Issue 1 of Toy-Ventures magazine is available here: http://www.megomuseum.com/odeon/store/products/plaidstallions-toy-ventures-issue-one-september-2020/

Toy-Ventures: Maskatron (Kenner Six Million Dollar Man)

Toy-Ventures this week looks at what we believe to be the greatest villain action figure of the 1970s and perhaps the best action figure of the decade as well.

Kenner’s Maskatron, the robotic face changing robot from Kenner’s Six Million Dollar Man toy line is a wonderful bit of toy magic when some licenses a property but takes artistic license (anticipate a callback joke) and sets out to also make a toy with tremendous play value.

Toy-Ventures: AHI Action Apeman

Clearly inspired by the Mego Planet of the Apes action figures, the AHI Action Apeman are some of the boldest knock offs ever produced, I’ll explain why I think that in this video.

Toy-Ventures: Space Apes : Planet of the Apes Knockoffs?

After a long break, I have another wonderful mystery box of Knock-Offs from the United Kingdom, this week we’re going to meet The Space Apes, a series of action figures that seem to resemble the Mego Planet of the Apes figures but with some noticeable differences.

We’re publishing a Toy-Ventures Magazine this Summer, here’s a link on how to be kept in the loop:

Toy-Ventures: Zorak from Big Jim’s PACK

This week we go back to 1976 and take another look at a figure from one of my favourite toy-lines, Zorak, not only was he Big Jim’s first bad guy, he was a bit of a trendsetting toy concept and one that would become the norm for action figure brands for years to come.

We explore who invented the “Double Trouble” face changing concept and not only about Zoltar but the new deluxe Big Jim Commander that gets really angry.

Let’s talk Big Jim in the Pod Stallions Facebook Group:

Toy-Ventures: Popy World Heroes

This week’s episode is all about the greatest toys you never had as a kid, unless you grew up in Japan that is. The Popy World Heroes are an amalgamation of the Kenner Star Wars figures with the greatest TV Superheroes Japan had to offer.

I’m talking Power Rangers! I’m talking Ultra-Man and his many, many brothers and my personal favourite Kamen Rider and his arch enemies. Popy World Heroes are the kind of crazy the world needs.

Toy-Ventures: Who are the Krazy Kreeps?

This week I share possibly my favourite knock-off find of the last few years, meet the Krazy Kreeps, two eight Mego-esque monster figures that look so familiar. I’ll explain where we’ve seen them before, lots of fun surprises and mysteries.
